It’s Gotta Go Wednesday

Whew… that was close. I almost missed I.G.G.W.

The other night while trick-or-treating with my kids, I was reminded by something that has always bugged me. Those damn parents who drive their damn kids from house to house. Really? It’s not bad enough that your kids are going to eat approximately 39.5 pounds of candy, but they can’t manage to walk their lazy butts around?

Especially in a neighborhood like ours, there is no excuse. Maybe it’s the parents who are lazy. Regardless, it bugs me that cars are driving around, sometimes FAST, on a night when the streets are crowded with kids.

Trick-or Treating is about getting out, showing off your costume, collecting candy ON FOOT. Life is full of conveniences… in this case, driving kids around on Halloween night is, in my opinion, too much of one. Being chauffeured around on October 31st has got to go.

There was something fun and exciting about getting away from the parents and going out with my friends, usually with an older brother or sister doing the watching. Plus, I got out amongst the other kids (some older and threatening) and I walked to those scary houses, so I earned my overflowing pillowcase full of candy! You can’t get that kind of experience being chauffeured around.
